turmeric ginger tea

serves 4

INGREDIENTS

1 small turmeric root

1 small ginger root

dash of black pepper

1 qt water

STEPS

  1. Use a paring knife to cut off any bad parts of the turmeric and ginger root.

  2. Use a food processor or grater to finely chop/grate the turmeric and ginger. Turmeric does stain, so be mindful of this when working on surfaces.

  3. Add the turmeric, ginger, and black pepper to a pot and cover with water. Turn on stove heat to medium, heat to a simmer, and allow to simmer for 10 minutes. I like a strong tea, so I allow it to steep for an hour or more, usually, once the heat is off. Though steeping for 10 minutes should be enough!

  4. Strain the tea into a quart jar (jar should not be cold) using a french press or fine mesh strainer.

  5. Enjoy as is, or add a bit of honey! I use this tea in my spiced oatmeal recipe in place of water. Use within 5 days.

Note: this tea is great over ice - make a refreshing summer beverage by adding honey and a lemon wedge!
