When I was living in the Fox Valley, the place for me was the Wiouwash State Trail. Named for the counties it traverses, the entirety of the trail is about 40 miles long. It’s an ideal spot for walkers, runners, cyclers, and equestrians.

WIOUWASH STATE TRAIL

  • The Wiouwash State Trail is named for Winnebago, Outagamie, Waupaca and Shawano counties. This trail is maintained by the four counties.

It was built on a former railway. There are two complete sections of the trail. The northern segment runs 19 miles between Birnamwood and Split Rock (Shawano County). The southern segment runs 22 miles from Hortonville (Outagamie County) to Oshkosh (Winnebago County). The two segments are separated by about 30 miles.
